The Occupational Health and Safety Administration has released its list of the top 10 violations seen by the agency in fiscal year 2018, with Fall Protection and Hazard Communication taking out spots 1 and 2 respectively. Interestingly, the list includes two categories that have not previously made the top 10.
OSHA Deputy Director Patrick Kapust said the numbers only included data from the federal agency, and did not include violations found by state enforcement agencies.
The top 10 violations seen by OSHA in fiscal year 2018:
- Fall Protection—General Requirements: 1926.501 (7,720 violations)
- Hazard Communication: 1910.1200 (4,552 violations)
- Scaffolds—General Requirements: 1926.451 (3,336 violations)
- Respiratory Protection: 1910.134 (3,118 violations)
- Lockout/Tagout: 1910.147 (2,944 violations)
- Ladders: 1926.1053 (2,812 violations)
- Powered Industrial Trucks: 1910.178 (2,294 violations)
- Fall Protection—Training Requirements: 1926.503 (1,982 violations)
- Machine Guarding: 1926.212 (1,972 violations)
- Personal Protective and Lifesaving Equipment—Eye and Face Protection: 1926.102 (1,536 violations)
National Safety Council President and CEO Deborah A.P. Hersman said knowing how workers are hurt goes a long way toward keeping them safe, and that the OSHA Top 10 list “calls out areas that require increased vigilance.”
